CHANDLER OAKS CHAPTER OF WATCH D.O.G.S. ®!
Welcome COE dads and father figures! Watch D.O.G.S. ® (Dads of Great Students) is sponsored/chartered by our COE PTA. The program is administered by one or more “Top D.O.G.S.”’ dads, who manage the program, host the kick-off events, and consult with faculty and school leadership on matters of interest. The Top D.O.G.S. chairperson at Chandler Oaks for the 2017-18 is shared by Tony Olesen and Adam Shingleton.
ABOUT WATCH D.O.G.S. ®
WATCH D.O.G.S.® is the father involvement initiative of the National Center for Fathering that was founded by Jim Moore, a concerned father who chose to take action in response to a 1998 middle-school shooting in Jonesboro, AR. Moore wanted to help prevent violence from occurring at his children’s school or at any school. The first program was launched at George Elementary in Springdale, AR, the school of Moore’s oldest child. Today, more than 1,500 programs in 36 states and New Zealand participate in WATCH D.O.G.S.®
Program Goal
To help every school in America be positively influenced by the committed involvement of fathers and father figures in the lives of their children and students.
How WATCH D.O.G.S.® Works
WATCH D.O.G.S.®, a K-12 program, invites fathers, grandfathers, uncles, or other father figures to volunteer at least one day, all day or part of the day (if needed), at their child’s/student’s school during the school year. Individuals sign up at a kick-off event such as a “Dads and Kids Pizza Night”, “Donuts with Dad”, online, or in the office at any time throughout the school year. The program is overseen by a “Top DOGS” volunteer who partners with the school administrator to coordinate scheduling and identify opportunities for Watch D.O.G.S. ® to provide assistance at the school. Watch D.O.G.S. ® T-Shirts
You’ve probably seen or heard about the T-Shirts available for Dads and kids. Many dads, and kids, view the t-shirts as a sort of ‘uniform’ and a very special part of their day together. However, there is no requirement regarding buying or wearing the shirts. It is completely optional. There are also shirts available (very limited quantity) in the front office for use, so be sure and ask if you need one for the day.
Probably the most common question received about shirts relates to ordering. Our COE PTA manages both the collection of money and placing the orders. This is important to note since the Top DOGS do not collect money for such items, nor do we place orders. We can assist dads by helping them reach the appropriate PTA representative, so please do email with questions.
